Tarzan pokie review

Get ready to bellow ‘You Jane, Me Tarzan’ from the treetops with Microgaming’s December 2016 pokie release. Tarzan has been created in conjunction with Edgar Rice Burroughs Inc. The deal between the iGaming software giant and Edgar Rice Burroughs was brokered by Creative Licensing Corporation. Despite not getting to see the stunning Margot Robbie or the handsome Alexander Skarsgård, as it’s based on the novels, Tarzan is a quality pokies game.

We do get to see an animated Tarzan and all our favourite characters in 3D which Microgaming have done a pretty good job of since their last endeavour failed. Keep reading to find out what’s on offer on this licensed title.

Tarzan format

Press the space bar to spin on Tarzan by Microgaming.

Tarzan features 5 reels and 40 paylines – a recent release from Microgaming which doesn’t feature the 243 ways to win format. While the graphics look entirely different to what we are use to from Microgaming, which we explain below, there are still elements which remind us who’s behind Tarzan.

The bet size, winnings, Auto Play, and Spin buttons are all neatly displayed under the reels. Players can adjust the bet size from a minimum of $0.40 and a maximum of $40. The 40 paylines are fixed so you can’t adjust these.

If you want to make spinning easier, use our life hack and press the space bar each time you want to spin the reels instead of clicking on the spin button.

Tarzan symbols and payouts

Paytable of Microgaming’s Tarzan pokie.

The paytable is hiding in the usual place Microgaming situates it – in the top right hand corner represented by two left facing arrows. Click on these arrows to view all symbols and their payouts.

The low paying symbols are finally represented by something other than 10-A symbols Microgaming seem to stick to, with the grape, apple, orange and watermelon all offering the lowest payouts. The middle paying symbols include the parrot, the monkey, and the tiger, while the higher paying symbols include Captain Leon Rom, Jane and Tarzan.

All symbols require at least three of a kind to appear in order to win. Set your bet size and then view the paytable to view the corresponding payouts.

The Wild symbol is the second highest paying symbol – spin at least three for a payout. It can appear Stacked in the base game and Free Spins feature, and it also performs the usual function of substituting for all symbols except the Scatter.

The Scatter symbol is the Bonus Wheel and a minimum of two on an active payline will award you with a payout. Spin at least three to trigger the Bonus Wheel.

Bonus features on Microgaming’s Tarzan pokie

Bonus features on Tarzan by Microgaming – win up to 1000x.

While it seems like there’s just a Free Spins feature to this title there’s actually a Bonus Wheel round which is the leeway to the Free Spins feature, as well as another Bonus round and other prizes.

Once you have spun three Scatters a big Bonus Wheel will appear and you can press spin for Tarzan to start rolling the wheel. Here you can earn multipliers, a jackpot prize of up to 1000x (depending on your bet size), or trigger the Pick-a-Potamus Bonus or the Free Spins feature.

The more Scatters you earn the better the rewards will be with three Scatters awarding multipliers between 3x and 6x, between 6x and 12x for four Scatters, and between 9x and 18x for five Scatters.

If you trigger the Free Spins feature you will be taken to another screen where 12 free spins are awarded, with Rolling Reels, which see winning symbols explode with new ones replacing them, and Growing Wilds, these expand up to 15 Wilds to create bigger wins.

Finally, if you activate the Pick-a-Potamus Bonus, you are taken to a Click Me screen where 12 hippos are eligible to be picked to win a cash payout. You get two guaranteed picks here too.

Audio and graphics

Enjoy the soundtrack on Tarzan by Microgaming.

We are quite impressed when it comes to the graphics on Microgaming’s Tarzan. It is on par with what we see from NetEnt these days and while no provider can beat the graphics from Betsoft’s Slots3 line Tarzan does immerse you into the animated realm. The visuals have to be some of the best we’ve seen from Microgaming thus far.

Unfortunately the mechanical sounds are still present but you can mute these and just have the soundtrack playing by clicking on the ‘options’ button in the pop up menu located in the bottom right hand corner. Click ‘switch off game sounds’ and ‘switch off win sounds’ to lose the annoying mechanical sounds – or mute them all and add your own soundtrack.

Our thoughts on the Tarzan slot

our experience of tarzan
This is an incredible title from Microgaming.

Microgaming has had to fight hard to maintain its position at the top of the tree, in terms of iGaming software. This Tarzan release is a big step forward for the company with the immersive elements a nod to rival providers like Betsoft.

The Bonus features do the story justice with a Bonus Wheel triggering huge payouts or features where you can win big. Overall this title is worth your bets whether you prefer being Tarzan or Jane.
