Casino Shorts: Leo launches new roulette, Riviera tumbles down
A unique bit of Las Vegas history has dealt its last card, with no chance of a reprieve, after The Riviera Hotel was demolished this week.
The well-known gambling hotspot and hotel is probably best known as the first high-rise built in Sin City.
Its origins date back to being founded and proposed by a Detroit mobster William Bischoff and later became one of the hottest entertainment spots in the world, with Liberace and Dean Martin among the first acts to play.
It has made various appearances in films including the well-know Oceans 11, which was released in 1955, and re-made many years later. Other movies to have made a splash in Vegas include Diamonds are Forever, Showgirls and the all time classic Casino.
The hotel/casino’s golden run came to an end in 2015, when stakeholders finally gave up after a decade of financial turbulence.
A business park is expected to be built on the site.
Kids being influenced by gambling ads
Australian kids are associating sport with gambling and it could lead to future problems, a study by Deakin University students has found.
Despite a decline in the overall gambling ads shown on television, the industry still pumped $145 million into advertising.
The study found kids as young as eight could recall brand names and even promo offers.
The three biggest names in sports betting according to our kids are Bet365, TAB and Sportsbet.
Leo Vegas launches new live dealer roulette product streaming from Italy
LeoVegas.com has opened a new live dealer stream, with players now able to play roulette being screened from Saint Vincent Resort and Casino in the Italian Alps.
Playing concurrently at the same tables people at the land-based casino are playing at, the new product brings a new level of intimacy to online play.
The graphics are first-rate and the filming is done in wide-angle HD video with better audio than we have come across at rival setups.
As always the tables at LeoVegas.com have generous limits with players able to bet the same amounts as land-based players.
There are three different levels of the Authentic Roulette with Original Roulette, Professional Roulette and Superior Roulette with the table limits staggering up.
These games are also available on the Leo Vegas Android and iOS apps, but you will need to have updated to the latest versions.
Wynn takes a huge punt in Macau
At a time when casinos are struggling in Macau – the Asian gambling hub – Steve Wynn has provided a show of faith.
The casino mogul has opened Wynn Palace at an estimated cost of USD $4.2 billion, despite a two year slump which has seen gambling venues report a 36% drop in revenue.
But if the tone of the 74-year-olds voice was anything to go by, he is expecting it to turn around in the not too distant future.
“If you’re in Bangkok, or Tokyo, or Seoul, the idea was that Macau will become, for the entire Pacific region, the destination resort city,” Wynn said, just days out from the new ventures opening on August 22.
While this comment from Wynn probably rings true, the casinos are still very reliant on mainland Chinese gamblers, who have given up the punt in droves on the back of an economic downturn and a crack down on corruption by the government.
Other casinos under construction in Macau include the MGM Cotal and Parisian Macau.
