German online casinos
German online casinos
While online gambling was banned in 2008 in Germany, apart from wagering on horse racing, in 2012 a German state made it legal. This only lasted a year, but the 50 licensed poker sites and online casinos, couldn’t be re-appealed so the legality around Internet gambling a bit unclear. Secure offshore online casinos accept German players, and you should have no problems playing here. Top German casino sites for November, 2024:

About Germany’s online gambling laws
If you’re a beer lover, you will know all about Germany – from the steins of beer the the magnificent beer halls. While Munich, the country’s third largest city, is home to the 16th-century Hofbräuhaus, which is found at Oktoberfest, you will find many beer houses all over the country. Located in Western Europe, Germany also offers a diverse range of landscapes including rivers, mountains, forests and beaches. There’s also land-based casinos for both locals and international visitors to legally gamble at including in Berlin, the capital of Germany.
When it comes to online gambling, the legality isn’t as clear as it is for land-based venues. In 2008 The German Interstate Treaty came into effect which saw a ban on all forms of online gaming in Germany. This excluded bets on horse racing on the Internet however.
In 2012, the German state, Schleswig-Holstein, was the first and only state to approve a gambling bill which allowed Internet gaming wagers to be placed by German players. This saw many online casinos and poker sites licensed, and while the state went back on the liberalised law on Internet gaming, the licenses were offered for six years – all sites which earned licenses can offer casino games online to players in Schleswig-Holstein until 2018.
For everyone else, online gambling is a bit unclear as offshore Internet casinos have not withdrawn from the German market and even offer the German language to be selected when registering. As of late 2016, the 16 states are said to be working on modernising the country’s online gambling laws, which we will keep you updated on here, but for now you can safely play at secure offshore casinos.
Top EUR internet casinos for German players
Many of the online casinos are licensed by jurisdictions which allow online gambling, but still regulate it, to ensure players are secure and these regulators are located in Europe – such as Malta. This allows German players to select EUR as the currency and play for real money securely.
The following sites are some of the best, accepting Euros as the currency, and you also can select to play in either German or English here too.
Royal Vegas: For German players after a downloadable casino client with card games you won’t find anywhere else, including Casino War, opt for Royal Vegas. The online casino is powered by Microgaming and the downloadable client offers 600+ casino games. It is only available to PC users, so Mac players will have to opt for the instant play version accessible via your web browser.
BGO: Despite reports Playtech withdrew from the German market, players can head to BGO and access a wide range of the software provider’s games with ease. The live casino is a great choice, with a range of live dealer games including Live Hi-Lo where all you need to do is guess whether the next card will be higher or lower than the card displayed – similar to Casino War.
Slots Million: This online casino only offers slots, so if you’re a fan of paylines or unique ways to win games head here. While there aren’t millions, there’s almost 1500 slots available to German players, including a fair few Playtech titles – only 17 which compares to the 105 available to players in other party of the world, but you’ll find other providers to make up for this including Microgaming and NetEnt tiles.
Karamba: Karamba is known for its unique casual games but you will also find an extensive catalogue of casino games, including the live dealer catalogue from Evolution Gaming. There’s traditional roulette, blackjack and baccarat games streamed in real time with a dealer filmed live, as well as unique variants such as Blackjack Party and Immersive roulette.
G’day: While this site is themed with stereotypical Australiana images, German players are treated to more games than Aussies. This is due to the NetEnt progressive jackpots not being available to players located in the latter country – German’s can enjoy the huge progressives including Mega Fortune which has seen many players around the world win millions.
Deposit options for online German casino players
Germans are quite lucky when it comes to deposit options, since there’s a huge range of European payment options which accept EUR. Since all the above online casinos accept EUR there’s no conversion fees incurred when making an online deposit or withdrawal.
The largest number of deposit options you will find is at Royal Vegas Casino, where you will find over 40 payment methods. These include:
- Credit and debit cards: Visa, MasterCard, Delta etc.
- Web wallets: Neteller (though only limited service is available to Germans), Skrill, ecoPayz, Euteller, CartaSi, Giropay and more
- Prepaid methods: paysafecard, EntroPay, Flexepin, AstroPay and more
- Bank transfers: Instant and manual options available
If you stick to the sites we recommend, including the one’s we have gone into detail about above, you can be assured all payment details, such as card numbers and account information, is protected.
